Good Stewards of New Technology

September 2008

Dear Friend,

The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals has long been committed to a bold Internet strategy. Won’t you join the Alliance in maximizing this latest medium for the Gospel?

Nearly 60 years ago, Donald Barnhouse signed a contract for the new technology of the day – Christian radio! Since that time, the Alliance has sought to proclaim the Gospel of Christ via as many modes as possible – broadcasting, events, publishing, and Internet. Not only are we using the web, but we desire to have it be pervasive in everything we do.

AllianceNet.org, our primary website, provides a portal to all the Alliance’s programs and events. There you can find a calendar of events including Alliance hosted or partnered events as well as many events of the Alliance Council. We host a list of Subscribing and Supporting churches which promise sound, confessionally based ministry. You can also find the online version of God’s Word Today daily devotional.

The Alliance works in many ways to meet more than 6,000 new folks a year; as many as 30% come from the Internet!

Alliance broadcasting can be found on the web. TheBibleStudyHour.org is the home for James Boice’s teaching, while EveryLastWord.org finds that of Philip Ryken’s. God’s Living Word with Richard Phillips and Dr. Barnhouse & the Bible are right off of the AllianceNet.org home page.

Almost 400 folks are new donors to the Alliance each year and 20% of those first time givers are from the Internet!

The Alliance’s online magazine, reformation21.org, is the go-to resource for reformed comment and perspective on the Church today. There, Derek Thomas acquires and compiles outstanding topical work. We have also just launched the beta version of our new online content delivery system, ReformedResources.org. There you can listen to or download messages, and you can order books and audio sets.

In 2007, our email broadcasts produced 7 donations, reformation21 received 9 gifts, and our online broadcasts gained 206 offerings of support.

So what is left to do? It is our desire to see the primary web page of the Alliance retooled for easier navigation and for greater content delivery. More content needs to be digitized and posted on the content delivery tool.  We have just started a work to deliver Matthew Henry content via the Internet, even streamed into your email every day. The web hosting companies need to be paid and our web coordinator has a salary too. The list goes on and on!

The Alliance does all of this for just $67,129! Less than 4% of our budget!

We are committed to this pervasive way. But we need your support. As you can see, the internet is just a small portion of our support base – though it reaches a base that radio and print will not! As the numbers show, we financially put more into our internet efforts than we receive – but we can’t say that’s the case for the 20 and 30 year olds we are trying to reach!

Whether you have been blessed by the internet or you wish to see more tech savvy others encouraged, please join us by supporting these efforts today. And I promise we will stay on task and continue to deliver the reformed resources by as many vehicles as possible to the Church!

Grace, Mercy, and Peace,
 Bob Brady Signature
